Job Summary

The Consulting Systems Engineer role is a senior level engineering role that will be responsible for implementing, supporting, and overseeing physical and virtual environments, both on-prem and in the cloud. Works in conjunction with architecture team, Cloud Center of Excellence, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), vendors, and other technical teams designing, implementing, and improving solutions for existing and future state. Regularly involved in automation improvements to ensure availability of systems, speed to deployment and consistent configuration.

Essential Job Functions

Provides technical recommendations to the architecture team to provide solutions to meet business problems
Assists with planning, oversight, and implementation of successful DR strategy to include regular DR testing
Applies patches and upgrades for systems and images
Develops and follows change management documentation with the inclusion of system verification and back out plan
Prepares and implements and/or oversees, regularly planned infrastructure refreshes
Works with Cloud and Site Reliability teams (SRE) creating automation playbooks
Assists in establishing performance metrics and measurement and reporting of established metrics

Essential Job Functions

Provides level 2 and level 3 support
Assists Incident Management with troubleshooting of issues and participate in RCA’s
Builds servers or oversees vendor implementation of engineered systems including hardening and high availability
Defines policies and documents procedures for engineered systems
Works with Site Reliability team to automate incident creation, response, and self-healing scripts
Work with SRE and Engineering teams on CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and API Integrations
Generate operations reports related to system capacity and utilization
Participate in an on-call rotational schedule with other team members
Maintain governance over vendors providing IaaS and PaaS for Farmers both on-prem and off
Execute or oversee, performance enhancements to existing systems and infrastructure

Essential Job Functions

Schedule, perform or oversee, regular systems maintenance
Review of new solutions and upcoming projects
Contributes to the development of strategies, policies, and best practices through participation in team meetings and other direct contributions
Work together with Cloud team, Application team, DBA, and systems teams to ensure production systems are backed up and maintained in optimal configuration
Work closely with various internal teams and auditors to generate timely audit report

Education Requirements

BS/BA Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related degree, or an equivalent combination of experience and relevant professional certifications
Technical Certifications, VMware, cloud, Wintel, Storage and Backup are a plus

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 10 years of IT industry hands on experience
Minimum of 8 years of Systems Administrations hands on experience
5+ years of OS administration experience supporting including Linux and Windows
5+ years supporting virtual servers
5+ years working experience in Cloud infrastructure i.e., AWS, Azure, or GCP
5+ yrs experience deploying and supporting IaaS on-prem and/or cloud
3+ yrs automation tools and scripting including, Perl, Bash, PowerShell, Ansible, and Terraform

Experience Requirements

Experience in handling hardware issues with third party vendors
Experience of working in enterprise IT environment
Planning, deployment, configuration of Backup and patching infrastructure
Strong problem-solving skills
Strong understanding of troubleshooting techniques
Ability to provide technical guidance, documentation, and peer training

Experience Requirements

Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner and analyzes information skillfully
Experience with storage configs for NAS and SAN, EMC VMAX, Isilon, ECS, DataDomain and XtremIO
Network familiarity (OSI, IP addressing, routing protocols, VLAN, wireshark)
Create, follow, maintain, manage IT documentation
Maintain knowledge on new best practices and industry trends especially with regards to automation, security hardening, high availability and disaster recovery
