Your role at Sephora... As our Director, Engineering, Front-End Architecture you will be responsible for the technical strategy for foundational frameworks and client-side technology systems for Sephora.com. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Front-End Engineering, you will be key to long-term strategic direction and supporting ongoing agile delivery by a diverse, distributed engineering organization. You will manage a team of seasoned systems and application architects to build on a tradition of high-quality experiences and capability. You will work closely with other engineering and technology teams, product management, and your business partners to lead and execute an ambitious portfolio of initiatives.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Set long term strategy for client-facing applications including Javascript applications with Node.js, React.js and emerging frameworks, including supporting technologies to provide high availability, stability, security, accessibility, seo and superior client experience
  • Create innovative new technical solutions to known business problems
  • Provide technical guidance and maintain standards for delivery of multiple key online initiatives, partnering closely with technology and business partners
  • Own and manage the front-end technology stack, its foundation and implementation for sephora.com and other properties
  • Manage a team of architects and engineering leads and provide leadership to much larger cross-functional group of teams across all parts of the organization
  • Recruit and hire top talent for the front-end engineering team
  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture team to establish and maintain standards for your domain
  • Work with other engineering and product leaders to evolve our delivery processes and drive cross-team collaboration and cooperation
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for full-time employees

We would love to hear from you if…

  • 10+ years of engineering leadership responsibility; retail or ecommerce experience is a plus
  • Experience developing and delivering using Agile methodologies
  • Hands-on experience with front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, node.js, React/Angular, CDNs,
  • Experience designing API strategies for high performing applications
  • Understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, object-oriented-programming (OOP), frameworks and technologies
  • Demonstrated experience manage effectively through organizational growth and change
  • Capability to move quickly between strategic and tactical, understanding context, connecting seemingly unconnected ideas and taking action
  • Experience managing large and growing CapEx and OpEx budgets
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and listening) as well as the ability to influence key decision makers and understand their points of view
  • Strong leadership, negotiation and execution skills with the ability to drive results, deliver and excel, and own it when you don’t
