Who are we looking for

We are looking for an experienced Principal Data Scientist for our Enterprise AI ML Reusable Products (EARUP) team. The candidate will be responsible for leading some of the key initiatives within the newly formed EARUP team and leading the transition of Nike’s Data Science capabilities from first- and second-generation data science products to true enterprise solutions. Nike is in the midst of a digital transformation, investing heavily in data science capabilities to go after opportunities in every area of the business – marketing, digital experiences, product development, supply chain, and beyond. We’re looking for a data science leader who wants to help these teams not just solve the problems of today, but build products in such a way that enables scale and future reusability for the enterprise.

This is a technical role requiring outstanding skill and experience both in terms of the theory of machine learning and the applied side of building and scaling an ML system in production. Competitive candidates are expected to contribute at a very high level as a data scientist, software engineer, and ML researcher. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication skills, strong product sense, an ability to prioritize and be self-motivated.

What will you work on

In this role you will…

  • Collaborate with EARUP and DS Leadership in building out the roadmap
  • Co-develop and co-maintain with engineering a highly visible library of reusable AI ML artifacts/components including but not limited to Feature Stores, Experiment Management, Model factory, Workflow orchestration, Model evaluation packages and Governance
  • Design and implement ML tools that will increase the speed and efficiency of our data science efforts
  • Apply advanced statistical methods to a broad range of problems
  • Build benchmark datasets and tools to increase offline testing capabilities
  • Keep up with the latest research and disseminate the most relevant new ideas in e-commerce and recommendation.
  • Collaborate with the broader data science community within Nike
Who will you work with

You will be the leader of the EARUP team, reporting into the Director of EARUP. As a horizontal function, the EARUP team will collaborate with data science teams across the company, including Search Data Science, Core Commerce Data Science, Communications Data Science, Activity Data Science, Product Design & Merchandising Data Science, and more. You will partner closely with our ML Platform and Data Engineering teammates.

In addition, as a member of the data science community at Nike, you will participate in our data science labs, study groups, team activities, and attend conferences.

What you bring
  • Masters or PhD in computer science, statistics, applied math, or other quantitative discipline
  • Proven experience creating and growing large-scale production learning systems
  • Experience building a core system for the creation of adaptive user experiences intended to drive significant gains in engagement and conversion via personalizing web pages, mobile apps, emails, and other critical consumer touchpoints
  • Experience developing strong partnerships with data science and engineering teams
  • Experience communicating technical roadmaps to business leaders
  • Experience with Python, and deep learning libraries such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • A product and entrepreneurial mentality
  • Experience with Databricks, Kubeflow, Amazon AWS and SageMaker
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed computing, both for data and optimization
  • Influencing without authority
  • A willingness to tackle any problem

Open to remote work, except cannot work in South Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia. These candidates will be required to relocate.  For employees based in Colorado, this position starts at $157,000 per year. Information about benefits can be found here.
