WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for an entrepreneurial, product-minded data scientist who is passionate about working on applications of data science within Nike. Nike is in a digital transformation, investing heavily in data science capabilities to go after opportunities in every area of the business – marketing, digital experiences, product development, supply chain, and beyond. We’re looking for a data science leader who wants to help these teams solve the problems of today, and build products in such a way that enables scale and future reusability for the enterprise. Competitive candidates are expected to contribute at a very high level as a data scientist, software engineer, and ML researcher. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication skills, strong product sense, an ability to prioritize and be self-motivated.
WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON
In this role, you will…
- The role will span a long stack of (mostly) python and cloud-based technologies for machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, data storing and manipulation, model serving, test-automating, visualizing, and monitoring and will involve discovering, adopting, and developing new tools and software components for the ML and computer vision stacks.
- Contribute to all stages of model development, from creating proof-of-concepts, to partnering with data engineering, machine learning platform, and product teams to deploy algorithms, evaluate the A/B test results and deliver value in alignment with roadmap and business needs.
- Support data science vertical teams by building python software components to realize complex, data-driven machine learning, deep learning and computer vision tasks.
- Strive to constantly improve model performance using insights from rigorous offline and online experimentation.
- Adhere to software engineering best practices and contribute to shared code repositories.
- Document modeling work and present to technical and non-technical partners.
- Participate in the broader data science community within Nike, including data science labs, study groups and team activities.
WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH
You will be reporting to the Director of Reusable AI ML Products. As a horizontal function, the Reusable Models team will collaborate with data science teams across the company, including: Search Data Science, Core Commerce Data Science, Communications Data Science, Activity Data Science, Product Design & Merchandising Data Science, and more. You will partner closely with our ML Platform and Data Engineering teammates.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field or a sutable combination of relevant education and experience.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience developing and delivering effective data science and/or statistical models to serve business needs. Will accept a suitable combination of education and experience.
- Experience developing models for production scale is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in Python required.
- Familiarity with machine/deep learning frameworks (SciKit Learn / Tensorflow / Keras / PyTorch) is strongly recommended.
- Experience with SQL or no-SQL databases
- Experience with Databricks, Kubeflow, Amazon AWS and SageMaker.
- Excellent data wrangling skills. SQL required. Working knowledge of Spark is a plus.
- Expertise in recommender systems and e-commerce is highly desired.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate optimally cross-functionally required (written and verbal).
- Strong organizational skills and self-direction
- Strong skills in data manipulation, cleanup, management, organization, visualization and storage. Ability to write custom tools and integrate with existing tools and frameworks
- Experience presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences and a history of publications or presentations at conferences is a plus.
- A degree in computer science, statistics, applied math, physics, or other quantitative discipline, (Masters or PhD) preferred

Open to remote work, except cannot work in South Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia. These candidates will be required to relocate. For employees based in Colorado, this position starts at $140,000 per year. Information about benefits can be found here.
